    You will see two sorts of solar panel throughout this post: solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, which create electricity from sunlight, and solar thermal panels, which convert heat into usable hot water.


    The Energy Company Obligation, commonly known as the ECO scheme, is a legal obligation for energy suppliers with more than 150,000 customers to reduce home heating costs by means of energy-saving improvements. Vulnerable and low-income residents will be the first to benefit from the program, as it is intended to assist people who would otherwise have difficulty paying for solar panels. The scheme began in 2013 and will continue until March 2022, when it will be replaced by ECO4, which will provide solar panel subsidies for a further 4 years.
